When the Wall Street Journal published "Wastelands: Americas Forgotten Nuclear Legacy," an inclusive article about nuclear arms clean up sites near homes, schools, and malls, New York , Ohio and Pennsylvania had the most locations that had once been part of the nuclear weapons making complex. West Virginia has two sites listed: 1. The Carborundum Company, Parkersburg, WV built to produce high grade Zirconium metal for the use in construction of nuclear reactors for the Navy in 1957.
